Welcome to Your Online Counsellor
Hello and Welcome,
My names is Claudia Smith and I am an accredited BACP registered counsellor with over 10 years experience of counselling, specialising in providing counselling online and member care for mission personnel and partners.
I provide face to face counselling at my consultation room in Redhill, Surrey, UK or online counselling using Zoom, a confidential space online. I also provide counselling through email using Hushmail which you can log into when you are ready to read your counselling emails. I offer an integrative approach to counselling, which may include aspects of Cognitive Therapy, Solution Focused, Person Centred and Psychodynamic approaches. I provide both short term and open ended counselling, depending on your needs and the issues you want to support with.
My motivation for counselling is grounded in my personal Christian faith and I have an interest in how the spiritual impacts us emotionally and psychologically. I adhere to the BACP code of ethics and so welcome and work with clients of all backgrounds, including those of faith and those of none.
People come to counselling for many different reasons. A common reason is the desire for change. We may want to change how we are feeling or thinking about something, or make a decisions to change a situation we are in. Change is not always easy. Counselling can provide an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings and make sense of your situation. Ultimately my aim is to help you feel better. Feeling better might include feeling better in your yourself, about a situation you are struggling with or moving forward into a better future.
I have experience in helping people with issues such as:
Member Care Services
I specialise in providing counselling and support for mission personnel/mission partners. If you are preparing to relocate overseas, returning from an overseas assignment or struggling with life on the mission field. Counselling and having specific time to prepare psychologically for an overseas assignment can help improve your ability to land more smoothly in your life overseas, return to your passport county with less of a bump or help you to adjust and improve the quality of cross-cultural living.
Having lived and worked overseas in rural Uganda, I use my professional skills alongside my experience of living cross-culturally, to help you prepare for your overseas assignment, thrive on the field and return afterwards to your passport country. I aim to help you consider what your needs are to enjoy and thrive on the mission field, by identifying your risk factors and working with you to ensure you have a strong foundation of support and skills in place to cope with the stresses and strains of being a mission partner and missionary life.

I work from The Westway Clinic, 17 Hatchlands Road, Redhill, Surrey. The Westway Clinic is in easy reach of Reigate, Horley, Nutfield, Godstone, Caterham, Dorking and surrounding areas. The clinic is on the corner of Hatchlands Road and Fengates Road. You'll find it on the right handside if you are arriving from Reigate and the left if you are arriving from Redhill.
When you arrive for your first consultation, as you come through the red doors you'll find a reception area to your right. One of the clinic's receptionists will note you have arrived. There is a comfortable waiting area where you can sit before your appointment. I will come and meet you and take you up the counselling room. The room is on the third floor.
After your consultation, you can come back down to reception where you can pay for your session . Payment can be made by cash, cheque or card. You are also welcome to sit down for a while if you need to before leaving the clinic or wait for your transport if you are being picked up.
I attended counselling sessions with Claudia for 19 months. I found Claudia warm, accepting and very skilled in providing me with a safe space where I felt I could openly explore the things that I was struggling with, and work out what I wanted to change. I always felt heard by Claudia without being judged. Claudia worked as a team with me, helping me to achieve a great deal of change. I will always be grateful to her for the valuable understanding and support she gave me through some very difficult unexpected life events during those 19 months. I’d highly recommend Claudia!
I made a huge amount of progress during the time I was working with Claudia. She gave me the space, encouragement and support to do much of the work myself, but was always ready with a telling observation, a shrewd suggestion, or a gentle (but effective) challenge. I usually left feeling much better than when I arrived; and I enjoyed the sessions enormously.
Faced with moving to a different country, job and life, I chanced upon Claudia Smith’s leaflet describing how she provides help to cope with the practical and emotional turmoil these changes unleash. Claudia helped me recognise what I was attempting to do and how to go about it. Not merely to survive the experience, but to prosper from it. Intelligent and experienced insight from a calm and knowledgeable counsellor transformed my preparation for this change. It transformed my worries to joy. Many thanks Claudia, everything has unfolded exactly as we planned.
